Technical Editor:

This much is fact. Beech kit P/N 23-5003 M provided a gross weight increase of 50 pounds (raising max gross to 2,250 pounds) for the Model A23-19, as referenced in the A1CE Type Certificate Data Sheet. Eligible aircraft were MB-001 through MB-288.

It is no longer offered by Beech, and does not appear in any parts system. All the kit contained was essentially an information package. It included a new owners manual P/N 169-590004-1, a new weight & balance data sheet P/N 169-590004-3, and a placard P/N 169-534053. According to Beech Tech Support there were no hardware parts in the kit, and no modifications were made to the planes. I have been unable to obtain any further information on what determined what planes were eligible or why, and why the kit became unavailable.

There was another kit, PN 23-9014-1 S, offered for the B19 Sport airframes MB-481 through MB-616. This kit partially undoes the restriction imposed by AD 73-25-04. That AD limited these airframes to three occupants and 2,000 pounds MGW. This kit is referenced in SI0616-010. The SI refers to re-pitching the prop, to a lower 54″ pitch number (to improve climb capability). As a result of kit installation, the AD is nullified on that specific serial number airframe, and a 2,150 MGW is imposed. All the information is in the kit rather than the SI, and I cannot find out anything more about it (so far). That includes finding out why neither kit applied to the in-between (and subsequent) airframes.
