I see that messages sent to Musketeer Mail (“MM”) are imported into the Discussion Forums. How does this work? Does the original author get notification of a reply?
We have an email address which is subscribed to MM. Once every 30 minutes that email address is checked for new messages from MM. For each email that comes in, the website first looks to see if the email was sent from an email address that matches the email address in the profile of any BAC member. (It doesn’t check to see if they were/are a paid member.) IF there is a match, the post will be assigned to the BAC username of that email address. If there isn’t a match the post will be assigned the name “Guest”.
Assuming a match is found, the script then strips out any “FW, RE, RV” or similar prefix to the subject, leaving the rest of the subject in tact. Next it looks to see if there is already a thread that has been imported from MM which matches that subject in the past 30 days. In other words if the first message sent to MM was “Looking for Parts” and someone replies with the subject “Re: Looking for Parts” within 30 days it will recognize that those two emails are likely part of the same thread.
If there doesn’t seem to be any existing thread, the script adds the email as a new topic to the Discussion Forums in the MM forum. If it does seem to be a match for an existing thread, the message is appended as a reply to that thread.
Email notifications are not sent to the original author since they may or not be a current member of BAC. Therefore they may or may not see your reply.
