Let the games begin – President’s Trophy 2013 Rules

Here are the 2013 rules from President Dan:

“There will be two President’s Trophy Awards. The awards will be presented annually at BACFest. One trophy will go to the BAC member that accumulated the most Presidents’ Trophy (PT) points during the previous calendar year and the other trophy will go to the member that attends the most official BAC fly-ins.The attached pdf file has the rules for 2012 and they do differ from 2011.The major change is that there will be some additional recognition for those who make the effort to attend BAC Events, even if they come by means other than Beech Aero Club aircraft.Times are tougher and sometimes putting in $5 or more per gallon gas to do a fly-in feels a bit unrealistic if the distances favor another method of transportation. The last few years we have rewarded those who attended a BAC Event by transportation other than owned aircraft with 100 points. That was the case even if they flew commercially or drove 1000 miles to the event. This year (2012) those arriving by other means will receive the larger of 100 points or 25% of the actual mileage. The incentive is still on flying a club aircraft to the event and those who do will reap full benefits. Those who decide to get involved, even if it means leaving the aircraft at home will be better rewarded than in the recent past. There are other minor tweaks as well, but most of the PT Point rules are familiar.Fly Safely and let the race begin!!!”

Beech Aero Club 2013 PT Point Rules
There will be two President’s Trophy Awards. The awards will be presented annually at BACFest for the winners from the prior year. One trophy will go to the BAC member that accumulated the most Presidents’ Trophy (PT) points during the previous calendar year and the other trophy will go to the member that attends the most official BAC fly-ins.
Here is how the mileage award and winner eligibility will be determined: (changed from 2011 rules)
PT points will be awarded only to BAC members in good standing that attend a PT event and properly report their miles. All miles are to be submitted by the Regional Director for the Region in which the event is held.
PT events shall be Sun-n-Fun, Oshkosh and BACFest plus any BAC event that meets the following criteria:
1. The event must be sponsored by a BAC member.
2. The event must be posted on the BAC calendar a minimum of 5 days prior to the event.
3. The event must be coordinated with the appropriate BAC Regional Director.
4. The event sponsor must compile the PT points and report them to their Regional Director who will submit the final numbers as outlined below.
5. A BAC member may sponsor an event in conjunction with an event sponsored by another organization but the above criteria must be met.
6. Only Members in good standing are eligible for PT Points and any PT Trophy awards (at the time of the awards ceremony).
PT points will be awarded based on the following criteria:
1. Attending BAC members who fly their own planes will receive one point for each nautical mile flown directly from their home base to the event location, one-way. No waypoints, side trips or other stops may be added to the route. Members traveling less than 100 nm to the event will receive a minimum of 100 points.
2. Members traveling together in one aircraft who split points will split the minimum or larger total. No duplication of awarded points.
3. Attending BAC members who do not fly their own plane but reach a qualifying event by any other mode of transportation (walking, driving, taking a bus, train, taxi, private aircraft or commercial flight, etc.) will receive the greater of ¼ point for each direct distance mile from their home airport to the event or 100 points.
4. PT Points may be awarded for “split trips” with mileage awarded consistent with the portion flown in an owned aircraft or other mode of transportation. Example: Member flies part way due to weather and drives the balance of the distance. The PT Point mileage total for a split trip will not exceed the straight line distance from the home airport to the Event.
5. In the event that a BAC Event is attended by a single member the following will apply:
5.1. Events attended only by the host will receive hosting points only (no mileage points).
5.2. Events attended by a single member who is not the host will receive PT Points consistent with the above criteria (mileage). Only one single attendance event per member per year will be counted.
Bonus PT points will be awarded based on the following criteria:
1. Organizing/Hosting a qualifying event will earn the host 100 bonus PT points.
2. Members may organize/host as many events as they wish but only three (3) events will qualify for bonus PT points. (i.e. 300 bonus PT points per year is the maximum bonus points a member can earn)
3. Qualifying events are not required to occur at the organizer/host’s home field.
4. The organizer/host will receive the bonus points if he/she is unable to attend the event as long as at least one member attends.
5. Bonus points may be split if more than one person is involved in the organizing and hosting of the event as long as the members agree.
The source for the nautical mile distance between the airports shall be AirNav.com for all the airports in the USA. An alternate source approved by the President may be used for airports outside the USA.
Reporting mileage shall occur as follows:
1. Attending BAC members must report the nm flown to the host of the event within 14 days after the event. It will be the president’s discretion to allow points if the mileage is reported after the 14 day time-frame.
2. Organizer/host will confirm attendance, compile the information and forward the data to the appropriate Regional Director.
3. Regional Directors will be responsible for assuring the mileage is reported to the President via the Board of Directors Sharepoint site or as otherwise directed. Points submitted in any other manner will be counted at the discretion of the President.
