Starting in January, I am going to start scouting out some additional ideas for our 2nd annual SW Fly-In in April. I am planning a flight to both of these places to check on hotel and meeting accommodations. On January 8th, I am going to Check out Mesquite, NV.
Mesquite, Nevada, just 80 miles north of Las Vegas, is a growing resort destination in the picturesque Virgin River Valley. Mesquite combines a small-town atmosphere with a multi- faceted array of big-city attractions ranging from 24-hour gaming and fine dining to celebrity entertainment and championship golf.
On January 15th I thought about going to Page AZ.
Page Arizona was built in 1957 to provide housing for the huge number of construction workers and their families it took to build the gigantic Glen Canyon Dam in the Colorado River between Arizona and Utah. The dam created Lake Powell, the largest man-made lake in America.
Today Page is a thriving Arizona tourist community of 6,200 that boasts of over 3 million annual visitors that come to enjoy the vast water recreation features of Lake Powell and other tourist attractions in Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.
Both of these places are near the center of our region and a fair distance for everyone (Except for Ashley Roberts and Allan Palmer who live in Australia and Lon Whelchel from Hawaii which by the way gives me a reason to visit both places this year).
If anyone is interested in flying along, let me know and we can make some arrangements.
