I have an early Model 23 Musketeer, and I need to replace the motor mount cushions (“Lord Mounts”). Someone told me that there are two different numbers for these mounts, for the early planes. What’s the true story?
See Beech Service Letter SL-63-10, issued October 11, 1963 (link available on the BAC website). The original mount cushions were assembly part number J-7402-1. A newer and softer assembly number of J-7402-16 has been issued. It is designed to better absorb starting vibrations. Most parts books and applicability lists should have long since been updated to reflect the new number.
Most airframes should have long since had the original mounts replaced with the new number. This Q&A posting is simply intended to prevent confusion in case someone encounters the old number somewhere. As a precaution, be sure to use the correct numbers on engine mount cushion replacements; don’t just automatically order the number shown on old parts removed from the plane. This holds true for most other parts as well.
